Drew’s Place offers some of the most up-to-date therapy practices for treating a variety of mental health disorders. In addition to this, we provide extensive and in-depth assessment for many psychological disorders including ADHD. Most importantly, Drew’s Place evaluators specialize in discerning the difference between a trauma response and actual symptoms of similar mental health conditions. This is incredibly important due to the treatment approach that differs for trauma versus other difficulties a client may be experiencing. It is important to note that a trauma response does not inherently mean one has PTSD nor does it mean that a person meets criteria for a mental health diagnosis. Here at Drew’s Place, we take the time to get to know our clients, treat them as human beings, and help them heal from whatever struggles they have been or are currently enduring.
Individual therapy, often referred to as psychotherapy or talk therapy, offers a personal opportunity to address cares and concerns unique to you from an individualized perspective. Individual therapy is the process through which individuals meet one-on-one with a trained therapist to explore their feelings, beliefs, and behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.
During Individual therapy, the therapist will take a personalized approach as they listen and support you in reaching your therapeutic goals such as managing anger, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, marriage and relationship challenges, parenting challenges, school difficulties, career changes, and more. Using a variety of skills and techniques, your therapist will provide a supportive and interactive experience that will allow you to process events and emotions in a safe, caring, unbiased, and confidential environment.
Psychotherapy helps children and adolescents in a variety of ways. They receive emotional support, resolve conflicts with people, understand feelings and problems, and try out new solutions to old problems. Goals for therapy may be specific (change in behavior, improved relations with friends or family), or more general (less anxiety, better self-esteem). The length of psychotherapy depends on the complexity and severity of problems.
Couples therapy is a type of psychotherapy focused on helping a couple work through challenges, understand their relationship better, and develop healthier ways of relating to one another. The therapist uses specific therapeutic techniques and interventions to support the couple's goals. Many couples come to couples therapy because they're dealing with a specific challenge and are seeking help towards resolution.
Trauma can impact an individual’s life across multiple areas and impede day to day functioning. Trauma can look different for each individual and the capacity to manage stress and trauma differs as well. Unprocessed trauma can impact one mentally, physically and spiritually. The emotional and physical reactions it triggers can make an individual more susceptible to serious health conditions including heart attack, stroke, obesity, diabetes, and cancer, according to Harvard Medical School research. One’s body can hold an imprint of a traumatic event and the unprocessed traumatic memories can become stuck, causing mental and physical processes to malfunction.
Therapy can help as a means to process traumatic experiences, gain closure and/or release the stuck memory in the brain.
Through a comprehensive intake and the use of a therapeutic technique called Brainspotting, the Clinician builds a supportive clinical relationship that nurtures space for processing and healing. The technique of Brainspotting can further support a deeper level of processing and personal healing by accessing the subcortical region of the brain where emotions and trauma are stored.

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and is considered a diagnosable mental health condition. It encompasses a wide range of persistent problems that can affect your day-to-day life.
What are the symptoms of ADHD?
ADHD has a variety of symptoms that can vary in severity. While the symptoms that we most associate with ADHD include hyperactivity, impulsiveness, and restlessness; even every day tasks can be difficult for those living with ADHD. Some behaviors include inability to focus, difficulty prioritizing, missing deadlines or important dates and events, or not following through to attend social engagements. The inability to control impulses can impact many different aspects of a person’s life. Often times this can lead to irritability, anger, mood swings and emotional outbursts. Additional symptoms and/or behaviors include difficulty paying attention, impulsive behavior, hyperactivity, instability in relationships, low self-esteem, or poor work or school performance.
Diagnosing ADHD
ADHD can be difficult to diagnose due to its various symptoms that often mimic symptoms of other mental health issues. The most common and effective means of assessing ADHD is by using the assessment tool called the Conners Adult ADHD Rating Scale (CAARS). This tool involves the client as well as someone who knows the client well to gather as much information possible. Additionally, each evaluator gathers an extensive background history of the client. Combining the CAARS with an extensive background history provides enough detailed information to diagnose or rule out a diagnosis of ADHD.
