Reunification Therapy

In society today, family systems are becoming increasingly complex and dynamic. As a result, families often face many difficulties which can challenge the idea of a traditional, nuclear family unit. Many circumstances may lead to a rupture in the family system. Which, unfortunately, leads to more families experiencing high-conflict situations that affect family relationships and functioning. This is where mental health professionals can be essential to maintaining or repairing a healthy family system. More specifically, Reunification Therapy is particularly important for families with an alienated parent for whichever reason.

Effects of Parental Absence on a Child

Research indicates the effect of having extended parental absence can impact a child’s development and their capacity for healthy attachments. The younger the child is at the time of separation can lead to a greater impact and more significant consequences for them.

Our Role as Therapists Working with Families in Conflict

Our goal when working with families in conflict is to assist in building and/or repairing the bond between parent and child. We assist this process by supporting the reintroduction of a parent into a child’s life in a safe and clinically appropriate manner. The reintroduction and repair of a parent-child relationship can be highly stressful for all parties involved and we understand and are compassionate to this incredibly important process.

Additional Services Provided as Part of the Reunification Process Are:

Child custody evaluations, detailed parenting plans, addressing court orders, regular court monitoring, and assisting with accountability/sanctions by the court.

Commitment

It is extremely important and most effective if everyone is fully committed to the process. This is why it is our goal at Drew’s Place to provide adequate support and guidance for all family members so that they can engage fully in the services offered. However, it must be noted that our primary role is to support and advocate for the best interests of the child(ren). To gain more information about Reunification Therapy through Drew's Place, contact our office at 530-338-1452 for a case consultation.
